Sweet Chops Cupcakes and Gourmet treats for dogs

Sweet Chops Terrier Tart

You know a dog treat is going to be good when you feel the urge to take a bite yourself. Never before have I seen such a beautifully crafted sweet doggy treat. Concerned that I was throwing a massive sugar bomb down my already over exited Lab’s throat,  I was relieved by further inspection of the ingredients that none of  the usual nasties associated with the word treat, were included in the ingredients.

I asked Emma from Sweet Chops to tell me more about her unique business,

“Sweet Chops was born out of a love of cupcakes and a passion for pooches. All of our cupcakes and dog treats use dog friendly ingredients including gluten free flour, fruit, natural peanut butter and honey, carob and flavoured yoghurt.  Our gourmet dog treats are handmade (baked and iced) and are designed to be a little piece of decadence for your four legged furry friends.

Our dog treats have no added salt or sugar and are free of artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. Each recipe is developed over time in the Sweet Chops kitchen and tested by our in house taste tester Noogie, to ensure it meets his high standards. The range includes Terrier Tarts, Lollipups & cupcakes flavours including Chompin’ Chocolate, Barkin’ Banana and Sausage Dog Swirl.  We also have cupcake kits in a range of our most popular flavours so you can bake fresh cupcakes at home”

The Lab Test

The Sweet Chops package consisted of Lolipups and Terrier Tarts which were individually wrapped and further protected by a layer of bubble wrap in the post pack that made it down from Brisbane to Sydney . All treats arrived safe and sound, proving that the posted product is the same as picking up locally. I do however, recommend that you take the treats out of the individual plastic wrapping and store in a separate container as the plastic wrapping  can start to melt the treat if in contact with the sun.  It also it may be good idea to put them away out of human sight as unassuming two legged species could mistake them for their own.

Both terrier tarts and the lollipups (with edible stick) are palm sized portions which are a great size for the large dog as a special treat whole, or can be easily broken up and shared if you have smaller dogs . My kids commented on the sweet ginger bread man smell and found it rather unfair that they were not going to get a piece of the action. Our Lab Zoe was at first a little bit taken back when I presented the treat to her as if too say  “ You mean this is really for me?”

The following photos tell the the story better,

 Sweet Chops 1

"maybe if I put on my sad face he will share it with me?"

Sweet Chops 2

"alright, I will have a lick"

Sweet Chops 3

"nope, I think I will have a bite instead"

A couple of days later when she was due for her next reward, she showed her true naughty Lab intelligence by quickly identifying the treat as hers and during my usual commands to make her calm down before she got her reward,  the treat was delicately snatched and off she ran to enjoy her own little slice of puppy heaven. Next time she is going to have to work for it!
